Benefits and requirements for the digital nomad visa in Panama.
The short-term visa for remote workers or digital nomads was created by Executive Decree 198 on May 7, 2021. The main purpose of this visa, of the Non-Resident category, is to encourage tourism for telecommuting travelers.
To qualify for this visa the following is required:
With this visa you cannot apply for dependents, to apply as a dependent you must have a permanent or provisional visa and this decree refers to the non-resident category.
Additionally, an account statement that certifies that the funds of your payments come from abroad, from the local or foreign bank.
• You can never represent the company that works for local activities within the country, it will be subject to cancellation of the visa.
• This visa lasts for 9 months and only one extension is given.
• Foreigners who do not enjoy suppression of visas or have restricted visas, go through a special evaluation by migration for their approval.
In the case of the remote worker in an independent capacity, you must demonstrate the following:
• Sworn declaration before a notary public, on the type of business offered and the data of its clients.
• Certification of the foreign company.
Once this short-stay visa as a remote worker is granted, it is valid for 9 months, extendable for the same period. It will also allow the person to work telecommuting within Panama and will not need an additional procedure or obtain a permit from another state entity.
