Temporary Resident Leave for Family Reunification

The Republic of Panama's Ministry of Public Security and National Migration Service offers a Temporary Resident Permit for Family Reunification (PRT-FAM) for foreign spouses, children under 18, and parents of a temporary resident. Children over 18 but under 25 may also be eligible if they can prove they are full-time students and financially dependent on their parents. This permit is valid for one year and can be extended for up to six years in total.

To apply for this permit, the following documents are required:

  • Notarized power of attorney and application.
  • Three photographs
  • Certified copy of the passport.
  • Criminal background check or notarized statement.
  • Health certificate.
  • Certified check for B/.250 to the National Treasury.
  • Certified check for B/.800 to the National Migration Service.
  • Personal statement of background.
  • Letter of responsibility from the temporary resident.
  • Proof of relationship (birth, marriage, or custody certificates).
  • Proof of full-time student status and single status for applicants under 25.
  • Proof of economic solvency (tax declaration, employment letter, or bank reference letter).

For renewals, the same documents are required with the exception of the criminal background check and the certified checks.
