How to register your boat under a Panama flag

For the flag of the vessel to be registered in Panama here is a summary of the requirements:

The flag will grant you a navigation patent. To obtain the full patent, the documents described below must be maintained, in the absence of any, a provisional patent will be granted. The patent application requires a radio license to operate the ship's equipment, likewise, if all the documents are not delivered, it will be granted provisionally.

FLAG

  • Power of attorney: Signatures must be authenticated by notary if it is done in Panama or by Consulate if it is done abroad
  • Title deed: Can be provided the certificate of construction of the ship since it is new. Also it is valid contract of sale or documents of judicial sale. Documents must be notarized and legalized by Panamanian consulate.
  • Public Registry Certificate: The title deed is registered to issue the certificate.
  • Cancellation of previous registration: If the ship is new and a construction certificate is provided, it is not required.
  • Panama Company Registration Certificate: Proves ownership of the yacht for tax benefits if you want to keep the yacht under Panamanian company.
