Application for a Domestic Worker Visa.

According to the Republic of Panama's Ministry of Public Security, the National Migration Service's regulations, a national or temporary or permanent resident may apply for a domestic worker visa for a foreign national to work as a domestic worker. The visa is valid for a term of one year and can be renewed annually for up to four times, as long as the employer and foreign national meet the requirements and responsibilities set forth by the National Migration Service.

To apply for a domestic worker visa, the foreign national must comply with the formalities required in Article 28 of the Decree Law, with the exception of the fourth point, and submit the following documents:

  • Notarized Power of Attorney and Application
  • Three (3) passport-sized photographs
  • Notarized or authenticated copy of the domestic worker's identity document or residence permit from their country of origin
  • Deposit of Guarantee, check made out to the National Migration Service for the amount of B/.500.00
  • Migration Services, check made out to the National Treasury for B/.100.00
  • Proof of receipt of public services that shows the location of the home in which the domestic service will be provided.
  • Proof of affiliation of the foreign national with the Social Security Fund; copy of the Social Security card (notarized)
  • Employer's letter of responsibility (notarized)
  • Employment contract
  • Copy of the national ID or residence permit of the responsible party (authenticated by the civil registry)
  • Economic solvency of the responsible: including job letter with its record, income tax return with it corresponding receipt, and letter from a local bank

For visa renewals, the following additional documents must be submitted:

  • Copy of the visa
  • Copy of the passport
  • Proof of compliance with the immigration regulations
  • Proof of payment of the migration fee
  • Proof of payment of the deposit of guarantee
  • Proof of the foreign national's compliance with the Social Security Fund
  • Proof of compliance with the labor regulations
