At LEGAL@work, we understand that navigating the legal system in a foreign country can be overwhelming. That's why we're here to help guide you through the process of obtaining a Rentista Retirado permit in Panama. This permit is available to foreign individuals who can demonstrate a monthly income of 850 balboas, which is generated exclusively from interest earned on a fixed-term deposit at the National Bank of Panama or the Savings Bank. This deposit must be held for a minimum of five years and be free of any liens or guarantees. To apply for this permit, the following requirements must be met:

  • Power of attorney and application form (notarized)
  • Three photographs
  • Copy of passport (notarized)
  • Criminal background check
  • Health certificate
  • Personal background declaration form
  • Bank certification from the National Bank of Panama or the Savings Bank, demonstrating the deposit amount, interest earned, deposit duration, and that it is free of liens.
  • Notarized copy of the deposit certificate

If the applicant has dependents, the following additional documents must also be provided:

  • Letter of responsibility and repatriation (notarized)
  • Proof of relationship (birth or marriage certificate)
  • Proof of residence
  • Single status and education certificates (for those over 18 and under 25)

It's important to note that withdrawing the fixed-term depositor failing to meet the terms outlined in Law 9 of 1987 and its regulations will result in the loss of incentives and rights granted by this permit.

The permit will be granted for a period of five years, which can be renewed for an additional five years, provided the above requirements are met and the applicant holds a Panamanian passport. At LEGAL@work, we are dedicated to making the process of obtaining this permit as smooth and stress-free as possible, and we will work with you to ensure all necessary documents are properly prepared and submitted. We also provide an estimate of cost exclusive of legal fees.
