As a Professional Foreigner

The Permanent Residence Provisional Permit for Foreign Professionals (PPT-PROF) is an option available to foreign professionals who wish to establish their residence in Panama, as long as their profession is not limited by the Constitution or laws of Panama to Panamanian nationals by birth or naturalization. To apply for this permit, applicants must comply with the formalities required in Article 28 of the Decree Law and submit the following documents:

1.     Power of attorney (notarized)and application form

2.     Three (3) photographs

3.     Copy of the passport properly verified (notarized)

4.     Criminal record certificate

5.     Health certificate

6.     Certified check for B/.250.00 in favor of the National Treasury

7.     Certified check for B/.800.00 in favor of the National Migration Service

8.     Personal background declaration form

9.     Copy of the diploma or university degree, bachelor's, master's or doctorate, properly apostilled or authenticated (if the diploma is Panamanian it must have the "fiel copy" seal from the university)

10. Foreign diploma must provide the homologation certification

After two years of having the Provisional Residence Permit, the foreign professional can apply for Permanent Residence. The requirements for this permit are the same as before, with the exception of the Criminal record certificate and the checks. Additionally, the applicant must provide:

11. National clearance (Temporarily suspended MEF-2020-17737 of 13/03/2020)

12. CSS certificate that accredits the payment of nine (9) consecutive quotas without prejudice that there has been a change of company (Executive Decree N° 606 eliminates the 9 quotas for permanent residence)
